A South Florida widow who delayed an Orlando timeshare development by rejecting multiple offers to buy her vacation condo finally agreed to sell. Julieta Meija de Corredor, 83, sold her two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo to timeshare developer Westgate Resorts for $1.5 million – 10 times more than she and her late husband paid in 1985. Westgate wanted to buy her 1,124-square-foot condo along with others in a complex called Sand Lake Village Condominium to clear the site for construction of two high-rise timeshare buildings.
Westgate claims her refusal to sell her condo cost the company millions of dollars. The owner of a neighboring condo unit sold it for $145,000 in 2015. Westgate unsuccessfully offered to buy Meija de Corredor’s unit for $150,000, to rebuild it with $50,000 of furnishings and to swap it for a newer unit. The 83-year-old widow refused to sell even as Westgate began construction around her condo and a bulldozer operator damaged the unit in 2016, leaving it uninhabitable.
